We've shared many tears, songs, longings and laughter together.Making music is a great way to get in touch with a vital part of ourselves ..the part that can feel.I've been exploring feelings and emotions to a greater depth, of late, and I'm developing skills to become more emotionally literate.Why is emotional literacy important?When we are triggered and uncomfortable emotions arise, if we can label the emotions articulately, it equips us with the ability to learn the language of emotion. To know the language of emotion is to understand what our feelings and emotions, as messengers, are trying to tell us.To articulate and befriend our emotions also allows us to navigate where to place our boundaries, and just as importantly, how we know when someone has crossed them. Why are boundaries necessary? An outcome of living without clear defining boundaries is to be somewhat like a people pleaser, inevitably attracting the kind of people, organisations or systems that take advantage.Emotional mastery is not often spoken about, but in today's times, now more than ever, we need people to have well defined moral codes and an equally strong set of boundaries. If every soul living today retains their own sovereign identity, then as a whole we simply won't tolerate bullying, manipulation, lies, dictatorship and the like.Boundaries keep us safe, but first we need to know ourselves.Sonja 💕Emotional Mastery Exercise: Take a gentle breath in, through your nose, and as you breathe out slowly, through your nose, ask yourself, "how do I feel right now"? Check in on your feeling state and name how you feel in as many descriptive words as possible. Take your time. Write your words down.         A while ago I learnt a meditation, or a contemplat A while ago I learnt a meditation, or a contemplation exercise, that I still use today. It involves focussing your attention on a seed, but instead of looking at the physical seed, contemplating instead on the 'energy' or 'life' that turns that seed into a majestic and monstrous tree.It can also be done by contemplating a flower. How does the flower know how to become a flower? How does it form it's petals and colours? What is it that pushes the flower out of the bud to blossom? What is it's life 'force'?It's common to disregard the things we don't see and generally, all of our attention is focussed on the physical world of form.Practicing this kind of exercise, even just for a few moments, can get us in touch with the unseen world, a world of infinite mystery.Why would we practice this exercise? Giving attention to what we cannot see can change our world view and bring a balance between the limited seen world and the unlimited unseen world. And by doing so, helping to acknowledge and appreciate the mystery and invisible source of life.Happy contemplating! How do I feel in my body? What can I hear?"Breath.  Listen.  Feel. Observe. Allow.  Accept. Surrender to what your experience 'is'...not what it could be, or should be.Even if you are caught up in the web of life, most of the time, give yourself a few moments each day to lay back, relax and say to yourself, “These moments are just for me, for me to be ok with me, for me to be ok with what I'm thinking, for me to be ok with what im feeling, for me to be ok with what is being presented to me, right now”.By doing so you'll find a wonderful gift...an absence of fear.The best way to not feel stuck is to step through it. Accept your 'stuckness'.
